Taste of Home

Brooke Wofford from Travelers Rest, South Carolina

Brooke Wofford is a mom of two boys, Barret and Branden. When she’s not cooking or baking for her loved ones, she likes to stay busy by taking trips to Charleston, South Carolina, visiting her son in college and driving her youngest to fishing tournaments and tennis matches. Her other favorite activities include traveling to the Caribbean and visiting South Carolina beaches with her husband as often as she can.

Taste of Home: Do you have a favorite recipe from Taste of Home?

Brooke Wofford: When I was a student teacher in college, my lead teacher shared Taste of Home magazines with me. I found a recipe for chicken and wild rice casserole over 20 years ago that I still make today! I’ve changed it up a bit to suit my family’s tastes. I also love a homemade lemonade recipe that calls for milk.

TOH: What is your favorite recipe you’ve had published to Taste of Home?

BW: My favorite recipe that I’ve had published in Taste of Home is my Orange Snow Balls. I’ve had about 100 recipe requests from friends and family since my recipe won the Party in a Pinch Contest! They only take about 20 minutes to make, so I’m whipping them up a lot for parties and giving them as gifts to friends and family.

TOH: What’s the next cooking skill you want to master?

BW: I am 1/16 Chickasaw and would love to master native recipes of my tribe, such as grape dumplings, pashofa and fry bread. I don’t make these recipes very often, but I would like to bring them back to my weekly recipe rotation to celebrate my heritage and culture.

TOH: What’s your favorite kitchen hack that you now live by?

BW: My favorite kitchen hack is baking bacon on a rack. The grease doesn’t splatter all over my kitchen, and cleanup is so easy. It tastes better, too!
